Welcome to the Bates Benbow Bridgman Couse Herbert Jones Lloyd O’Connor Family Histories….
…… these are the stories of Roger and Jane’s ancestors (and of Angie’s and Patricia’s), their extended families, relatives and descendants. The plan is to include mini-biographies, all sorts of information and anecdotes about the individuals, about the places they lived and worked around the world and the sometimes surprising connections between them. And hopefully to make it interesting!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SITE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND THAT THERE ARE STILL MANY FAMILIES AND PEOPLE TO ADD! CURRENTLY THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF DETAIL ON THE HERBERT FAMILY, BUT NOT MUCH ELSE, AND THE HERBERTS AREN’T FINISHED YET…..
Structure and Navigation
The main components are pages relating to People, Families, Places and Connections. See the menu. The People page is an extensive series of posts about individuals but a number of people also have their own menu item.
You can browse it by scrolling down, but there are a lot of posts! Alternative ways to find what you are looking for are to click on a relevant the “Tag” or to use the Search field, which works a bit like Google. If you have any queries, suggestions or can’t find anything, please just ask!
Your Contributions
Please make your own contributions by way of comments or new posts. You can add updates, photos, stories and new information. This will enrich our collective knowledge and maybe some members of the younger generations will one day find it interesting!
I would put in a particular plea for any old photos. B y old I mean pre-WW2 at least and if possible pre-WW1 or from the 19th century. We have some great ones already but there are some gaps that need filling.
Access
Just so you are aware, this site is for invited family members only. No one else has access. Now you are here, you can read about the different branches of our extended families and hopefully make your own contributions.
Family Tree on Ancestry.co.uk
As well as the information on this site, there is also a large family tree on Ancestry.co.uk and there are many links from this site to the individuals listed there – currently nearly 1,500 people! Ancestry.co.uk shows the structure and connections of the many branches of the families, their relationships and holds additional photos plus many source and reference documents.
Ancestry is designed for creating family trees. It’s very good at this and for finding and saving detailed information about people, such as census details, birth and marriage certificates. It also stores photos, documents and stories. But, being focused on individuals, it isn’t able to give an overview of a family or how the connections between the various branches and places arose. This is what this website is about.
